Introduction

The goal of the self-service kiosk application is to ensure 24-hour service, sales promotions and increase customer satisfaction. Smart kiosk platform enables you to accelerate your self-service application development and ensure your kiosk operation safety.

- Support Self-service and ordering.

- Provide data service API to integrate kiosk backend system.

- Support cloud-hosted or on-premises application development.

- Flexible to deploy the kiosk security or lockdown configuration.

- Enable remote kiosk monitoring and avoid transaction loss.

Application Development

Self-checkout kiosk provides customer the interactive self-service or ordering operation with the terminal.

In general, the self-checkout application includes the following scenario:

- Scan product barcode ID

- Identify the customer or scan member ID card

- Perform the payment

- Print out the statement

To assist user application development, Self-service Industrial SDKs provides various peripheral and data service APIs, for example,

- Scanner service SDK

- Printer paper-roll status SDK

- Camera service SDK

To ensure the kiosk security and 24 hours operation, the smart kiosk provides

- Kiosk self-checking and remote trouble shooting

- Kiosk alarm analysis for proactive maintenance

The followings describe how to setup kiosk security and enter maintenance operation mode.

Kiosk Configuration

Create User and login

After EdgeX is running, click DeviceChecking icon on desktop, it should automatically jump to the user creation page:

(1) Open a browser and go to: http://127.0.0.1:9033

(2) Login: Input Username: admin, Password: admin, click Sign in to login DeviceChecking.

Kiosk Setting

1. To specify different accounts run different programs at startup

A meaningful identifier provided by user, default is "explorer.exe" for Administrator. In this demo, we use Glasshouse Demo APP for kiosk user.

- Setup Administrator

- Setup Kiosk user

2. Setup Auto logon

Fill in User name and Password, and then Save. The system shall automatically log on after next reboot.

3. Setup Boot option/Crtl+Alt+Del option: Switch user, Task Manager, Power button and default enabled Sign out.

Turn right on to enable function what you want, and then SAVE.

4. Setup Virtual keyboard auto-popup

5. Setup breakout key to exit Kiosk mode and back to desktop screen.

Power-on to enter Kiosk normal operation

1. Power on and auto logon

2. Kiosk demo app is startup automatically

3. Touch to input data with virtual keyboard auto-popup.

Enter to Kiosk maintenance operation with keyboard

1. Using your keyboard, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to show up the Sign Out/Power button/Task Manager menu keys

2. Choose the option to Sign out, and then sign in using your administrator account for the maintenance. The screen to load default settings in desktop mode of Windows 10.

3. Reboot and back to Kiosk normal operation
